About the Book

I wrote each of these poems several years ago to encourage myself. Learning to trust in the Lord did not come easy for me. I was not really taught to trust and depend upon the Lord. Many of my problems arose from the fact I did not know how to lean and depend upon the Lord. I did not know how to take the Lord at His Word. But when I finally learned to lean on the Lord I found Him to be a God of His Word. I found out that I could trust and depend upon the Lord. When I needed comfort I would go to His Word. When I learned that His Word is infallible I learned that I could trust in Him as well. As I learned to trust in Him, I began to express it in the form of poetry. I learned that God is the God who comforts me in my time of need. He has never failed me nor has He ever let me down. Though many times I thought that He had come short, I later learned that I was the one who failed so miserably. It is my prayer that those who read my words may be comforted in some way. I am confident that God’s Word can and will comfort me and anyone else. Since His Word comforts us, I pray that the words I write will comfort and encourage others. God has comforted me in my times of trouble. Now I can comfort others who are in trouble. I can comfort those of you who feel like throwing in the towel. I can comfort those of you who think your case is hopeless. Many times I felt that what I was facing was a lost cause. But the words of Paul assured me that God’s “grace is sufficient”(2 Corinthians 12:9) for any of us. I put these poems together specifically because of the times we are currently living in. Many people feel like giving up. Many people are discouraged because of the war and the failing economy. Many have lost their only source of employment, their homes and their businesses. I only pray that those who read my words can find some source of hope, encouragement, and inspiration. I don’t have the answers to anyone’s troubles or problems. But I know Who is the answer to our dilemma. I am grateful to God that I have learned that He is the “the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort.” (2 Corinthians 1:3) And He can and He will comfort each of us in our time of need if we will but go to Him. If we will but cast all our cares upon Him, He will comfort us! (I Peter 5:7) Willie M. Mewborn Author/Poet
