About the Author

Maureen Nene Kemp was born on May 28, 1955 in northern Nigeria. Her family belonged to the Ika Biography Ibo tribe, and she was the fifth of nine children. In 1960, at the age of seven, she lost her mother. In 1966, the Nigerian Biafran war, left an indelible mark on her family, having lost everything, including her grandmother on her mother’s side, oldest brother and five uncles . She graduated high school in June, 1973 and left Nigeria for England in 1974. After graduating from college in England, she returned to Nigeria in 1980. In December, 1981 the news about her second oldest brother’s death was devastating. She left Nigeria again for the United States in 1982 where she has remained till today.
