About the Book

Frances: The Artist, Art Therapy, and the Alzheimer’s Patient The photographs in this collection show the affects creating art has on one Alzheimer´s patient, Frances G. Thomas. Her daughter, Christine, provided a home and assisted-living needs. This living arrangement developed into a journey of an Alzheimer´s patient and a caregiver. Through Christine’s interests and contacts, Frances was introduced to sculpting. A visit to the art studio of Debra Flocco in Haverstraw, New York, resulted in these photographs of Frances sculpting in a safe environment. The intent of these photographs was to encourage continued research in the field of art therapy for other Alzheimer´s patient.
