About the Book

When four of Yehudah and Fayga Radzyminski's children took their families to America before 1900, their other two children and their families remained in Poland. The author paints vivid pictures of these six siblings, their spouses and their descendants by combining colorful oral histories and descriptions of Jewish life in their cities in Poland and America around the turn of the century. By following the very different fortunes of these families on two sides of the Atlantic from 1880 to 1950, this book gives us a personalized history of the Jewish life of the times.

About the Author

Rona Glassman Finkelstein grew up in Rochester, New York. She received a B.A. degree in art from Connecticut College, but her interest in philosophy led to the University of Rochester and a Ph.D. degree. After chairing the philosophy department at Delaware State College, she served as director of the Delaware Humanities Forum. Hearing her great-aunt’s tales of life in the Old Country inspired her to start taping her older relatives’ reminiscences and to discover her family’s origins. She lives in Wilmington, Delaware and has two sons and four granddaughters. Along with community activities, she continues to research her family’s history.
