About the Book

"On the eighth day of Hanukkah, we waited till the night/When all eight colored candles stood up tall and bright./We placed each in the menorah and did it with such care./As we lit each candle, we said a solemn prayer." So begins the inspiring story, THE EIGHT DAYS OF HANUKKAH, by Shirley Russak Wachtel. This sweet tale relates the miracle of Hanukkah in simple poetic language whose style is based on Clement Moore´s A VISIT FROM ST.NICHOLAS. Children ages 2 through 10 will be mesmerized by the story of Judah, "a strong courageous Jew," his victory over the fierce Antiochus, and the exciting miracle of the flask of oil which burned for eight days! All children will wonder at the story and enjoy the magical "moon" illustrations of Karen Kaplan Klein. It is a tale which will be told and enjoyed again and again during Hanukkah and throughout the year.
