About the Book

Nationally known psychologist and author offers help in adapting to 21st century living.

Keeping Your Sanity(In and Insane World) (Second Edition) is a series of 30 essays written to give people an opportunity to explore themselves as they come to terms with the various trials and tribulations of everyday life.

We live in a complex, uncertain, sometimes crazy world where things just don’t seem to make sense. Stuff happens. We often feel out of control. We all face these concerns almost daily. Most of us, however, do not recognize that we have a lot more control over how the issues we face affect us. We have a lot more power than we give ourselves credit for. Life in the twenty-first century is complex. Relationship issues, social issues, addictions, environmental crises, personal tragedies, illness, depression, spiritual issues, sexuality, and more, all have an impact on how we feel about ourselves and how we cope with life.

Mental health practitioners receive training in the science and art of psychotherapy, which, for many individuals, is the treatment sought for trying to come to terms with many of these issues. Most people, however, do it alone. Sometimes they are successful in their attempts; often they are not.

These essays are based on almost four decades of the author´s experience in clinical practice as a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist. People seek psychological help for many reasons. Some people want to resolve long-standing psychological and emotional discomfort; others wish to overcome debilitating habits, unsatisfying in relationships, or addictions to alcohol or drugs. While each person brings a unique set of experiences, concerns, and issues, the general areas with which people struggle are similar. The majority of these issues fall into several categories: compulsive behaviors, relationships, social issues, problems in living, and taking charge of one’s life.

About the Author

Dr. Edward A. Dreyfus is a licensed psychologist, sex therapist, and marriage and family therapist practicing in Santa Monica, California for more than three decades. In addition to a clinical practice where he offers individual, couples and sex therapy, Dr. Dreyfus also practices as a life coach. He has worked with hundreds of couples of helping them achieve more successful, fulfilling relationships. Dr. Dreyfus believes that the primary reason for the alarmingly high divorce is due to the inappropriate manner in which people choose a mate. We live in the 21st century and yet we use mating strategies developed a hundred years ago.
