About the Book

Looking back after fifty-five years, I started writing my memories of World War II in 1995. One by one, I recorded stories of my experiences to save for my two young grandsons. When they become adults, I wanted them to know some of the experiences that I had as a young man at the age of twenty. I related my experiences from the time that I was inducted into the army until I was discharged three years later. Therefore, my book relates the memories that I have of World War II while serving with the 250th Field Artillery Battalion — our training at Camp Maxey, Texas, our further training in England and Wales, our landing on Utah Beach, our fighting across France and Germany, and our waiting in Salzburg, Austria, for seven months to be sent home.
