About the Book

This book provides a double visual treat: a combination of poems and closely related artistic photographs. Closely related because the photographs were the stimuli for writing the poems. As you read each poem, you can enjoy the complementary photograph on the opposing page. The theme of the book is heritage. The setting is roughly the northern Great Plains, the source of the authors’ roots. Both the poems and photographs serve as windows into legacy.

To senior citizens, this book may trigger nostalgia. To others, the images and words may open windows to a nearly forgotten past, perhaps that of a grandparent or great-grandparent. These outlooks on legacy might provide the impetus for you to write meaningful poetry and create artistic photographs as well. The handy tips at the end of this book can serve as starting points.

About the Author

Alan M. Cvancara is a retired geology professor and author of five nature books: Edible Wild Plants and Herbs, A Field Manual for the Amateur Geologist, Exploring Nature in Winter, Sleuthing Fossils, and At the Water's Edge. He and his wife have co-authored Windows Into Legacy, a poetry-photography book. Alan is also an artistic photographer. Ella J. Cvancara is a poet, with numerous poems published in many poetry journals and anthologies, and a short story author. Ella is editor of a poetry chapbook, Voicings from the High Country. She holds two bachelor degrees and a master's degree.
