About the Book

Spanning a decade from 1935 to 1945, this historical novel tells the story of the Manhattan Project through the eyes of some of its principals—Oppenheimer, Lawrence, Fermi, Groves, Roosevelt, Churchill—as they rush to build an atomic bomb before Hitler does. When it becomes apparent that the Nazi’s do not have such a weapon, many Project scientists question the wisdom of continuing the effort to build an atomic bomb. Two of them do something about it.

About the Author

A native of Denver, Dennis Floyd attended the Colorado School of Mines in Golden where he earned undergraduate, MS, and PhD degrees in the field of Metallurgical Engineering. His knowledge of nuclear weapons technology stems from a 19-year career at the former Rocky Flats Plant near Denver where he first performed and later managed metallurgical research and development. Dr. Floyd later co-founded a company that still recycles nuclear weapons materials in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He also founded a company that helped decontaminate and decommission the former Rocky Flats Plant.
