A Soft Whisper I had a dream the other night, And thought it worth sharing. The crowd was shouting, “Crucify!” As he stumbled past their way, And no one seemed to be caring On that oh so fateful day. Yet there I stood and watched the sight. With each slow and painfully agonizing step, Blood from his many wounds would flow. Yet no anger came from him as he wept, But I heard each teardrop whisper, “This is for you. I love you so.” The dream held me bound so tight! I could not turn away. The weight of the cross grew heavier still As his strength continued to go. But he was doing his Father’s will, And I heard each footstep whisper, “This is for you. I love you so.” Oh, this dream I fought with all my might! Yet still my heart bound me to stay. “Don’t you hear that?” I asked a man.. He only shouted louder and told me to go! But there in the shouting, I heard it again, That oh so soft, soft whisper, “This is for you. I love you so.” Was it all a dream last night? Or did he take me there? I followed him up the hill, at a loss, And flinched with each piercing hammer’s blow That nailed him to that old rugged cross. But still came that same soft whisper, “This is for you. I love you so.” I had a dream last night And thought it worth sharing. So each time I awake to a new day, Or watch a sunset’s glow, I remember Jesus paid my way And can still hear him whisper, “This is for you. I love you so.”
