About the Book

Afterword Prof. Lao Fa is, in modern times, an ink painter, a calligrapher, a poet, and an art educator who is very famous in both China and Canada. This is the second volume of Album of Painting and Calligraphy by Lao Fa, which almost covers every aspect in painting and calligraphy, including ink landscape, dancing, swans, and cursive scripts. For the successful publication of this album, I would extend my affectionate gratitude to Cindy, Philip, Mr. Qinghai Yu, the translator, and Xlibris, the publisher.

About the Author

A Brief Introduction of the Painter Liu Fasheng (style name: Lao Fa; alternative names: Mo Gong or Tian Xiao) was born at Xiongguan Town in Xiong County, Hebei Province, People’s Republic of China. One of the masterpieces among his early works is “The Swan Lake” (measuring 6,000 × 134 cm), on which the inscriptions as well as autographs of many eminent figures, such as Qigong and Liu Bingsen, in the fields of painting and calligraphy can be found. Beijing TV station especially videoed an exclusive coverage for the debut of this masterpiece, which was later broadcast many times at peak viewing times. One year later, he accomplished a long scroll in cursive script “The Elaboration of Swan Lake,” which is a sibling of “The Swan Lake.” Mr. Liu Fasheng was a fine arts editor in chief working for Xinhua News Agency before retirement. He organized many exhibitions abroad for painting and calligraphy accomplished by veteran artists. Since retirement, he has been residing abroad. Some of his works were collected by international friends, celebrities, leaders of states, overseas museums, etc. Prof. Lao Fa is a doctoral tutor at BC College of Painting & Calligraphy, Canada, with his remuneration ever recorded for his works of calligraphy and paintings as high as US$9,000 per square foot.
