About the Book

This collection of poetry is a story of my life and of changes that have contributed toward what I am today. The poetry ranges from love poems, spiritual aspirations, gothic and abstract pieces, and narratives. It is a collection of how an autistic sees the world, as if looking out the window at the world yet never able to join. This book contains controversial subjects and profanity, as censorship of language goes against free expression. This book contains a variety of poems and short stories that has influenced my life as well as shows the particular torment a person living with PSTD has. I wanted to show the world what looking at the world through my lenses is like, and I am sure there are countless others who prefer a realistic approach as opposed to ignoring the hardships this world thrusts on people. A unique perspective of life. I also hope to make aware to people the dangers of religion and how religion can be controlling. There is a section of poetry from my Christian days that I have kept for the sake of art. These are from experiences in living in fear of Christian brimstone preaching. A lot of that fear underlies my earlier work as well as a deep, relenting anger at the oppressor that I feared, which was religion. Regardless, I would love to discuss the role of religion in people’s lives and determine how we can live in a society that practices spirituality as opposed to strict rules that are open to interpretation. Traditions are something I have come to hate, a disussion of which can be found in the latter portion of the book. Finally, it is my hope that my creative writing might inspire further creativity and expression of personal experience. I wish to share my art and have an intellectual experience that opens a person’s mind to a bigger universe than they have perceived.

About the Author

I have gone through various stages in my life where I have had different motivations to inspire my ability to create poetry. My mind is often unique in its take on life and my surroundings which has led to my abstract poems that express what I find hard to explain. I have high functioning autism and complex PTSD which has also contributed to my unique approach to writing. I spent most of my life isolated due to social anxiety and am rather withdrawn which makes it hard to socialize. In my younger years I was religious and went to a strict church for a while in which I discovered early in my 30s that religion was not helpful for me which lead to my current state of being agnostic. However, the time I spent in religion lead to what I call my spiritual poetry. I try to have an open mind and experience new things in order to expand my consciousness and achieve a unique perspective in which I can appreciate various faiths for the beauty that spirituality can lead to. I started writing poetry when I was in middle school after I won a poetry contest in my class. I found that I was good with words and could create my own worlds. Once I was in college I pursued a degree in English as I have always loved reading because the worlds would come alive for me. The ability to read sense gave flavor to these stories I read and made them feel alive. I always have enjoyed sharing my art with others and it is my hope that this collection of poetry will create world that come alive for my readers. I minored in theater, further expanding my ability to read sense and create characters that felt real and unique in their dialogue. It is my hope that my readers will find as much enjoyment in my poetry as I have in writing it.
