About the Book

Juan Fearful’s First Day at School, Juan Fearful and the Bully, and Juan Fearful and His Friend Carlos are stories intended as picture books for young readers’ ages five to eight years old. Juan is a school-age child who has fears common to most children (e.g., first day of school, death of a family member, bullies, or losing a friend). How children cope with fear varies with their personalities and their family support system. Like many children, Juan would like to ignore his fears, but he realizes that this will not help him solve his problems.

About the Author

My background as a retired school psychologist and a Marriage Family Therapist has afforded me the opportunity to work with many children whose fears and experiences interfere with their progress in school. I have helped many children address these issues in a constructive and positive manner. I feel this type of story, along with the support of the family will alleviate the fears children have about school and other experiences. Also, my co-author has a background in bilingualism, language development and reading. This encouraged her to develop the dual language and dual reading level format. The dual reading in the series is a format that allows for reading at two different ability levels. It is formatted for beginning readers and for more advance readers or for “read aloud” by an adult. It allows for adults and children to talk about theirs fear and ways to cope with them. The book is available in both Spanish and English
