About the Book

Language Arts –A New Perspective is a textbook that seeks to create a marriage among teens around the world through the infusion of stories that capture adolescent cultural experiences. The world is becoming globally smaller therefore we need to get to know each other better. Each chapter begins with a journal entry that inspires. Our teenagers need to be reminded that greatness resides within them. They need to remember that our future depends on them. In addition, chapters include target thematic vocabulary, grammar, a test-taking skill or academic language as well as a Language Arts (content area) skill. Chapters are complete with a practice exercise or quiz as well as a review checklist. Language Arts-A New Perspective, focuses heavily on narrative writing allowing students the opportunity to lose their way in the maze of their imagination as they unveil characters and spin tales. Narrative writing is taught using scaffolds – step by step strategies that have been proven to make creative writing easy and fun for all learners, including second language learners. This book also includes expository writing- persuasive, reports (statistical and simple reports), process writing and biographies and autobiographies. About the Author

Valeriana Bandeh (nee Blasse) has been an educator for over 24 years. She enjoys teaching and writing both narratives and poetry. She believes that culture is one of the greatest spices of life, therefore she marinates and infuses some of her writings with dialect, cultural experiences and humor. She has taught Language Arts, Literature and Geography at high school and English as a Second Language at elementary school. This textbook is a compilation of her work, her observations and her successes over a span of 24 years. It is her belief that this book will awaken a greater desire in every learner to explore characters that are different and to search for plots that are driven beyond their shores.
