Skin Deep

I wrote this book hoping to boost the self-esteem of children of color everywhere and to intrigue and educate people of all skin colors. Skin color can be a positive unifying force among all people instead of negative like it was when I was growing up. And like various infamous "Doll Tests" prove that it still is: Dr. Kenneth and Mamie Clark's infamous Doll Test that was used in the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education ruling that desegregated schools, though it was not pivotal. And the CNN Anderson Cooper 2006 test recreation used to measure attitudes about race unrelated to segregation that revealed more about self-image. Then still more recently a Feb 2016 AAUW Achievement Awards Ceremony honoring Dr. Mamie Phipps Clark for her continued work in this area. There are many issues inside communities of color we need to work on ourselves. My own sister revealed that she has harbored a grudge against me since childhood because she recalls an incident where me and our mother were laughing at her because she had darker skin than me. A difference in degree most people can not see. An incident I don't remember and believe never occurred. I would never have laughed at my own little sister. Although both my mother and me preferred lighter skin tones. And she didn't believe anyone dark could be pretty. I have long since overcome flaws in this area. Until the 1964 Civil Rights Act skin color dominated our life choices dictating where black people could live, or work, or sit in restaurants, the politics of skin-color are beyond the scope and intent of this book. But it is historically relevant. Perhaps, the most interesting anomaly about skin color is that white people generally seem to value and accept darker skin more readily than communities of color do. Some question whether we have reached a time in technology where us humans are born and bred for our body parts? The Bible which ccatalogs human encounters with aliens (or whatever you choose to call them, the Anti-Christ, demons, the devil, the supernatural, ghosts) when correctly interpreted states that it has always been this way since the beginning of creation. Others believe that it is these aliens who created us humans. This book is a compilation of human realization stories – from people who discover, just before they die, that we share this planet with people who look just like we do but we are their prey.
