When a body is found drowned in a sewerage vat, Special Agent Zoe Moore and her team are summoned to space station Akkadia to investigate. In among a bustling space tourism trade, established by Everjein, Zoe soon discovers a series of unexplained near-death suffocations. Circumstantial evidence points to four young delegates of a seemingly passive religious order, motivated to populate the galaxy. Meanwhile, as Dr. Kian Barret works with his engineers to expand the size of the station, he is brutally attacked, leading to a series of catastrophic events that could see all the station inhabitants lost in the vacuum of space.

About the Author

Penny de Byl is a professor of computer game design and development, artificial intelligence, animation, and educational technology. She has been awarded numerous awards for teaching and research throughout her twenty-year career. She has a Ph.D. in artificial intelligence and computer game character programming. To date, she has written five books, including the best-selling Holistic Game Development and Artificial Life Possibilities: A Star Trek Perspective. The Chaldean Legacy is the sequel to Lost Souls, a work of fiction combining Penny’s expertise in computer science and technology with her love of crime mysteries and police procedurals. "The Chaldean Legacy is the spellbinding second installment of the Disciples of Cassini Trilogy. Author Penny De Byl has a tremendous talent for fusing science and fiction to bring about a thought provoking and gripping adventure. From the first page we are transported into Penny?s world. Her descriptive nature sends your mind on an exploration of the strength and fragilities of the human body. We are transported into space feeling the powerful nature of being out of our world as well as the fear of being dependent on outside forces for our survival. Penny is able to bring out the best and worst in her characters, their motivations and the world they are creating. Her ability to explore the impact of technology and advancement on the human race is remarkable. In a future where Everjein has made commercial space travel a reality there is more at stake than advancing the human race.

When Zoe, Nick and Holly travel to Akkadia to provide security measures for the space station they are taken on a tour by Marcella. Akkadia, part resort part habitat is an inspiring idea. Planned out with stunning detail Akkadia is able to house creatures from four distinct environments. It also provides hotel styled luxuries for its visitors. The awe and brilliance of Akkadia is upended when the group discovers a dead body on the waste level of the station. Meanwhile, the interest in going to Akkadia is building and commercial flights are being booked. Members of Celestial Ordinance, a religious group looking for God among the stars, are among the visitors booking the flight. When more murders start unfolding and the safety of those at Akkadia is jeopardized the entire project will be threatened.

I previously read the first book in the series ?Lost Souls? and was happy to meet up with the same characters as well some interesting new ones. While this story does continue from ?Lost Souls? it can be read standalone. There is humor, suspense, murder, mystery, science
