About the Book
The island of Tiritiri Matangi is the last bastion for many endangered species of native New Zealand birds. It’s located off a peninsula on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island just north of Auckland. The book’s about an octopus whose castle of shells is invaded by an anchor from a runabout with a couple of local fishing buddies. The octopus climbs up the anchor chain and even comes on board, quite angry and spraying them with ink! It’s a true story of my friend Melvin, who told me years ago, and I said, “I’m gonna write a book about that.” Octopus eat many shellfish and crustaceans with their strong parrotlike beak, the only bone in their body. There’s a huge amount of tourists and local visitors on the island every week, and I’ve heard there’s a shop on the island. Perhaps I’ll sell them there.
