About the Book

B.A.S.S. celebrates 50 years. One man had a vision in 1967 of escalating a recreational sport to tournament bass fishing. He held a press conference to promote his idea and everyone left but one reporter. That reporter Bob Cobb believed in the vision, uprooted his family, and moved to Alabama to become the first editor of BASSMASTER Magazine.

The B.A.S.S. Story: Unplugged, a collector's edition for bass fans, is the history behind the headlines. Complete with historical photographs and vignettes, Cobb reveals how B.A.S.S. was created and changed fishing in America. How an addicted angler, Ray Scott, and a few rabid followers revolutionized the fishing industry and turned cast-for-cash into a megadollar business, a political force, and savior of the resource. Today, The Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (B.A.S.S.) numbers over 517,000 members worldwide.

Author Bio: Cobb, a Tulsa, Oklahoma, outdoor writer, took over the fledgling B.A.S.S. publication in 1968 and converted BASSMASTER Magazine into the "Bible of Bass Fishing" with over a 4 million following and readership. The BASSMASTERS TV- Series launched in 1986 on The Nashville Network (TNN), grew to a weekly audience in over 1.4 million homes. Producer/director, Cobb and the program were twice nominated for the ACE Award for excellence in cable programming. He has been recognized by the Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame as a "Legendary Communicator" and a member of the "Legends of the Outdoors" and was inducted into The Bass Fishing Hall of Fame in 2002.
