Hanna and her Nanna were picking flowers. They loved working together in the garden. .Today they were picking flowers to make a wreath for Anzac Day. Into Nanna’s basket they put chrysanthemums, geraniums, berries, spidery pink nerines and the last two roses of autumn. ‘We must have some Rosemary,’ said Nanna, breaking off some pieces from a big green bush with little blue flowers. ‘Do you like the smell of this herb, Hanna?’ ‘Oh, yes Nanna,’ said Hanna, burying her nose in the sweet smelling bunch. ‘What is it called?’ 'This is rosemary and rosemary is for remembrance,’ said Nanna. ‘Tomorrow is Anzac Day. It is the special day when Australian and New Zealand people remember the soldiers who died in wars. Nanna snipped some long, trailing pieces from the willow tree. Hanna carried the willow and Nanna carried the basket inside.

About the Author
Helen Evans is a storyteller, author, textile artist, and a former pre-school director and teacher at New England College of TAFE in Armidale NSW Australia. The illustrations for this book were sewn lovingly by Helen in memory of her mother and father. The original fabric book can be seen at the family gallery in the town of Uralla as well as other examples of her textile work. Helen has three adult children and four grandchildren.
