Diary Entry: January 31, 2013 I wonder what my grandparents would think of me right now? Probably a failure. Maybe I took on more than I could chew. One thing I do know now is that my will alone cannot trump all things. For years I thought that my will was enough to hold it all together. If you can't get everyone on the same page, you will undoubtedly have an unhappy ending. Diary Entry: February 2, 2013 I must get going. This is driving me crazy. The worst place for me to be is in my mind. Diary Entry: February 8, 2013 I know that I shouldn't be messing with this chic. I think she has a lot of issues. Ok, that's bullshit. I know she has issues. I've talked to her about her mishaps for a couple of years. She knows I'm separated and wants to just hang out. Really? I told her point blank that I'm NOT being in a relationship. I don't even want to do dates like that. Diary Entry: February 12, 2013 She keeps wanting to come by and talk. Just sit out in her car and talk. What the fuck? Like I don't have a lot of nothing to be doing. Hahahahaha…. It's cool sometimes but my time has been precious to me ever since prison. She ain't trying to go there with me so I see no need of spending time. If you ain't fucking me don't fuck with me. Diary Entry: February 24, 2013 This job hunt is killing me. It's cold as hell outside and walking is a bitch. I could drive Mama's car, but I don't have any gas money right now, so I'll pass. She's doing too much for me as it is right now. I hate this shit. About the Book
This book takes you on one man’s journey through the disappointments of divorce and devastation due to death. How do you make it during those tumultuous times? What does your mind, body, and soul do to cope? How do you heal? This collection of works is inspired by actual events of a true story through poems, haikus, and personal diary entries. There are recurring themes in this book that most have grappled with at some point in their life. It is a reminder that regardless of our differences, we are still human beings that have similar wants, needs, and desires. The works are rounded out by two short stories that remind us that there is hope when we least expect it.
About the Author
Lamont “Voice” Cox is a poet, spoken word artist, writer, director, event host and “self-proclaimed” urban philosopher from Kinston, NC. He has participated in several film projects, plays and poetry slams. His internet show, Voice of the People, was the first of its kind produced in Kinston. It showcased local talent and addressed issues affecting the community. In February of 2016, Voice led an effort in Kinston that helped to deliver over 3,000 cases of water to residents living with contaminated water in Flint, Michigan. He was honored with an MLK Humanitarian Award for that project.
