About the Author

Lissa Kantor was born in 1921 in the small town of Wolkowysk, Poland. She was the eldest of five children. Lissa had a happy childhood with a loving family and wonderful friends. As the shadow of World War II loomed, Lissa’s maternal uncle, who had previously immigrated to Houston, Texas, worked tirelessly to bring the rest of his family to America. On August 21, 1939, Lissa, her parents, and her siblings left their extended family and dear friends behind and boarded the last boat out of Poland before it was invaded by the Germans.
