Kevin Monroe writes with an easy style that is a pleasure to read. His new book ‘Learning to Love – A journey into the realm of love’ introduces us to new thoughts and ways that he feels we can discover and use the love that each of us has been given by our Creator. His book is rich with examples from his own life as well as history. He explores love and the power of love to create a better world and he shows us how a simple act of kindness can make a difference. In his words, ‘kindness is passed on and grows each time it’s passed, until a simple act of courtesy becomes an act of selfless courage years later and far away’. One of the ways he chooses to demonstrate this is by 'Random acts of kindness'. He writes to help teach, regardless of race or religion, of the positive power that is so needed in the world today. Demonstrating ways in which we can overcome our prejudices and how love can combat racism. He uses examples of racism where people on the surface will accept the principle of brotherly love as preached in the Bible, but are more reluctant to become more directly involved. Here he uses, as an example, the movie 'The stranger who came to dinner' where a daughter brings her chosen partner home to meet her parents but finds reluctance when they discover that he is not of the same race. I found this book to be both insightful and filled with ‘aha’ moments and although the Author writes of an age-old institution he ably demonstrates that Love is the foundation of our lives in modern society, the practice of which will enrich our very existence. I recommend this book to anyone who is serious about making our world a better place to live in.
