Sara woke first; hearing a noise due to her being a naturally light sleeper. Joshua was sound asleep as Sara silently crawled out of her bed which lay next to his. She slept in purple satin shorts and a lavender tank top; her bare feet landing on the soft carpet, she listened intently to the door and heard the clicking of the doorknob. She reached for the holstered 45 caliber lying in the open bottom storage area of her night stand, and slowly moved to approach the room’s door, unsheathing the weapon. She looked back at Joshua briefly and thought, ‘if I wake him, the perp might hear and flee. Better to catch the person or persons in the act.’ She crossed the room, passing the room’s private bath on her left; she closed in on the door quietly.
Her hand reached out for the knob and quickly jerked the door open, only to find an empty hallway. She looked down the left and saw the other closed doors and the elevator at the end of the hall. To her right was only one door before the window at the end of the hallway with a small table and flowers in a vase. It was then she heard the slightest creak on the floor and the shimmer as she took aim, “What the hell is up with this sci-fi shi . . .!”
Sara’s gun flew from her hand and she found herself floating in the air with the life being choked out of her.
“Where is she?” A disembodied voice queried. Sara could feel its feelings; the thing was filled with murderous intent. She was starting to float back into the room and as she did so, the door closed seemingly of its own volition! Suddenly, out of nowhere, Joshua tackled something, and Sara fell to the ground choking. Everything spun before her eyes, as Joshua was flung to the bed, his arms pinned.
“Oh, how I will enjoy torturing you.” The voice growled in his mind. The sensation he felt from the voice in his head was malevolent and vicious. He could feel a hand over his mouth and he grabbed onto something and tried to push it away but it was far stronger than him, and suddenly, his left arm was torn from his body. Sara screamed herself, hearing Joshua’s muffled cries of pain.
“You son of a bitch.” Sara yelled, and just as quickly went silent, as something covered her mouth and she fought to breathe once more.
“Now- where was I,” The disembodied voice whispered to him. And then Joshua’s own disembodied voice responded, oh so terribly coldly.
“Thank you.”
The intruder could hear his Soulspeak and more, it could feel its relief, and joyful anticipation. Joshua was suddenly smiling, as a shadowy mist began to envelope him, and then, he was free, and Sara was dropped!
The entire Hotel awoke, as something inside their heads screamed in horror. A terrible fear had encompassed something, a fear they could not only ‘hear’, but one they could also feel and they too were terrified unto their very souls. The terrified something knowing a fear such as no current human had ever known was screaming in absolute and utter terror. Whatever it was, it kept screaming in their minds, “ULFYR!” There came a great crash as something smashed out of Joshua’s hotel window, and a shimmering, nearly invisible creature fell from a second story window, falling onto a parked vehicle; its roof caving in as it landed, hard, and then collapsed entirely caving in. The creature rolled off the crushed vehicle and into the side another vehicle, severely damaging its side door. The rain making it partially visible, it looked up as it saw in the broken window a tall, shadowy form. Tall and imposing, the figure had unusually tall ears and distinctive; even slightly illuminous silver limbal rings marking its eyes even in the dark looking down on it as the mist took form.
“I hunger.” The dark beast’s Soulspeak whispered in the semi invisible creature’s mind, and there was about it a terribly mocking sense!
The injured intruder continued to stand looking up but for a mere moment longer in the rain as if in thought. However, in the end it thought best were the shadowy beast avoided, apparently, and it took flight, flying in the general direction of the town and the heavy woods beyond.
Sara was surrounded by the mist and it had acted as if it were a living thing, alive and deadly. She was well aware of its deadliness, but knew it would not come near her and that it would purposely avoid her whenever she approached. She ran to the bathroom, in it was stored a large cooler, she flipped it open, it was packed with frozen meats of various kinds.
She ran back to the door where she could see the dark creature’s silhouette still staring out of the window.
