About the Book

People thinking about a book on the human condition probably wouldn’t go over to the poetry section. They might be inclined to wander over to the psychology or self-help area of a book store or books online. In this powerful and moving book, Lisa Moreno takes her readers on an odyssey through the portals of the human condition with her electrifying poetry. Her book, The Human Condition, Poetic Insights is a stand-alone book. It is a poignant and sensitive collection of poems that address the vulnerabilities that humanity faces. It is presented in a way that elevates this book to transcend its category to the greater appeal of all audiences.

Imagine the impressionable child being harassed at school. The impact that teasing has on a child’s personality can affect him throughout his entire life. In this book, the section on Growing Up offers poetry about children’s inner fears, revealing the complexities of childhood. A sense of innocence and naivete echoes here. The poem, Being Made Fun Of, will awaken memories of early school days. We all remember kids being made fun of at school, even if it wasn’t ourselves. Lisa looks deeply through the eyes of children. She embraces the feelings of adopted children, as well as the feelings of being The Only Child. Dealing with conflicts at the family level is presented in her poem, The Family Line. Lisa crosses invisible boundaries to bring awareness to her readers about the fabric of family.

Lisa then shifts into the realm of Relationships. Here you will find beautifully crafted poetry describing love on many levels. Some will take your breath away. Breathe Me In and Your Sleeping Heart will make your heart pound. A full bounty of love poems awaits the reader here. You will also find poetry revealing the sting of deception and betrayal. The Cheating Heart and Emotional Abuse will ignite many readers. Lisa boldly addresses the fears that people have at the gut level. Lisa doesn't simply write poetry to please and gloss over; she boldly ventures into areas of emotions from which people typically steer away. She wants to inspire people, to reach, climb, think, and conquer.

In the final section, Inner Conflicts, Lisa takes her readers on a rollercoaster ride through the depths of the psyche. Here you will find a safe atmosphere where emotional roadblocks may be lifted through poetic inspiration. Lisa feels the pulse of humanity on a highly sensitive level. We all can become victimized by circumstances in our lives. She discusses the full spectrum of the human condition, from subjects like Courage, to the paralyzing affects of all-consuming Fear. She weaves through the fabric of emotions, and carries the reader from an inspiring poem like Garden In Bloom through life’s deep abyss, where the dark, murky waters of the human condition stand heavy. Her poem, Abuse, reveals the stark reality of a subject too often kept repressed and undisclosed. She then carries you through the ups and downs of turbulent, emotional waters to the calm, clear water of her final poem, Unconditional.

The Human Condition, Poetic Insights is a riveting and page-turning book. Each reader is sure to find a piece of himself somewhere in its pages.

About the Author

Author Biography Lisa Moreno and her husband, Richard, live in Southern California with their four-legged family; three poodles, and one cat. She has written over 3,500 poems to date. She started writing poetry in 2001, and hasn’t stopped writing since. Born with a gift for words, she decided after being recognized, published, and honored for her sensitive poetry, she would put together her first anthology. The Human Condition, Poetic Insights, was her first work of poetry which specifically deals with emotions that humanity feels. Sensitive issues that people tend to repress, hold within, and internalize, Lisa brings to surface in a safe, comfortable manner. Still having a large breadth of poetry that crosses many other frontiers, Lisa decided to combine many of her other poems in a larger text called Dreams, Imagination & Destiny, A Poetic Journey. In this book, Lisa shows her readers a larger range of her poetic visions. Lisa writes purely in character. She says writing poetry comes naturally to her, and doesn’t require a lot of work or pre-thought. Her imagination becomes her best tool in writing. She says it flows like a waterfall. Her wish is to help people through her poignant poetry. In this way, she feels she is giving back. “Words impact us so very much, what better way to help people find their own way.” Her attitude on life is to appreciate each and every moment we live no matter what our circumstances. “People get so caught up in their own lives; they tend to ignore just how amazing this gift of life truly is! How many generations back do most people have any knowledge regarding their own heritage? Just imagine how many couples found their way through hundreds of years to give chance for each one of us to have been born? It goes way beyond our parents.” Lisa entices her readers to wander through their own imagination and freedom of thought to ponder universal questions and challenge new frontiers. Lisa has been a graduate gemologist for over twenty five years. She has lectured at many colleges and universities throughout the state of California for more than fifteen years. She has been a guest lecturer at the Museum of National History in San Diego, and has appeared on television as an expert in gemstones on cable television for over a year. She has also been a guest lecturer for Rotary Clubs of Southern California. Lisa has been very involved with charity. She’s been a member of the League for Crippled Children, which supports Orthopedic Hospital in Los Angeles. She has had her own research and development business that dealt with disposable products used in the emergency room. She was also involved with food and wine with regard to importing and distribution. A lover of animals, Lisa and her husband, Rick, have rescued several dogs and cats through time. “We made a pledge that before we would ever buy a dog or cat, we would rescue first.” Poodles are so intelligent; we decided to name our first rescue, Einstein, a three-month old black standard poodle. The story goes on. We found ourselves in the dog world and thanks to Madeline and Brad Patterson, we ended up with two more poodles, and discovered the movie “Best In Show” really had a lot of truth to it. Napoleon, our white standard poodle, finished his championship and is quite happy to just be a dog again. Tiffany Ann, our blank miniature poodle, runs the house. Animals are very healing. Wonderful programs are in place allowing therapy dogs to access hospitals and give highly needed nurturing to patients and hospital staff. The elderly benefit greatly from the attention they receive at convalescent homes from these loving animals. We highly support these programs and hope they grow. All of our pets are people-oriented and are always around us. They love to listen to me reciting poetry and to Rick playing his guitar. They make a wonderful audience. I can’t imagine life without them. I feel very blessed with life, and will probably be writing about its beauty and transgressions as long as I’m able.
