About the Book

Myrtle Beach – A city of wide contrasts whose more rational and sedate side must surely exist, but largely out of view. To the visitor, the Beach seems to scream and shout “play here!” Her public areas are truly its heart – bizarre, electric and visceral. As I wandered about with my camera on a summer Saturday, the images jumped out at me, and slammed me in the head - the only problem being that of self-editing. Herein is that afternoon. I remain astonished by her color and movement, and cannot wait to return. SL

About the Author

Sandy Logan was born in Charleston and thence he and his family moved to Philadelphia, where he was raised. He obtained his undergraduate degree in English Literature from Cornell University and then his Masters of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. He then moved back to Charleston to practice architecture, which he does to this day. He began taking pictures in graduate school and has done so continuously since then. He is mostly drawn to images of the discarded and ill-used detritus of our culture, and is not given to making postcard/calendar images, but rather those given over to abstraction and irony. This book is somewhat of a departure for him, in that it is a portfolio of both humor and high spirits. He has won awards, had many one-man shows, published three books, and has two large images in the permanent collection of the Cameron Museum of Contemporary Art in Wilmington, North Carolina.
