About the Book

The content within What Matters Most: Family, Friends, and Foes is derived from true life experiences that I have lived, witnessed, and gleaned from throughout my life as a child, adult, minister, U.S. Postal employee, and U.S. Navy Sailor. I must say that I am very thankful for the ability to share these treasured philosophical inspirations to reach and uplift others beyond the brink of those “what’s going on?” moments. As the title implies, the sources of inspiration for this project are my family, friends, and foes. One philosophical key that I hold to is that viewing circumspectly, you can surely learn something from everyone. As useful signage from God, I believe everyone and all circumstances hold a level of value to help make each of us a better person. My hope for this book is that each reader will find their answer to what matters most and press forward in God’s joy!

About the Author

OWEN WATSON I have spent ten years on active duty in the U.S. Navy and transitioned into the U.S. Navy Reserves for ten years before transitioning again to active duty with the U.S. Navy. I was fortunate to have outstanding tours of duty to include USS Orion (AS 18) located in La Maddalena, Sardinia, Italy; Fighter Squadron 84 deployed on board the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), Fighter Wing U.S. Atlantic Fleet, and Carrier Air Wing 3 deployed on board the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) homeported at NAS Oceana, Virginia; Navy Personnel Command located in Millington, Tennessee; the Pentagon (N8QDR) located in Washington DC; and Joint Task Force Civil Support located in Fort Eustis, Virginia. While in the U.S. Navy Reserves, my full-time civilian employment was with the U.S. Postal Service. I am married to the lovely Dr. Ramona and have two children, Aubrian and Audrianna, from a previous marriage. Altogether, they are my life’s satisfaction and blessings from God. My educational background consists of graduating from Park University with an associate degree in criminal justice administration and a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice, graduating from Trident University with a master of business administration in criminal law, and currently working on completing a PhD in educational leadership from Trident University. All of that pales in comparison to me, first and foremost, being a Christian and ordained minister who finds solace in the “unboxed” word of God as observed, experienced, and shared through various denominations of faith.
