About the Book

Rufus Tweed tells the tale of a greedy old sailor, who lived by the shore of a giant lake. He built a boat from an old tree and took people across the lake making them pay gold for the fare. His greed for gold drove him to claim a golden haired farmers´s daughter, in payment for taking the family and their dying son across the lake. Since the son lived, Rufus began to cross the lake to claim the girl with the gold hair for his prize. However, the old boat began to leak and soon started to sink. Rufus filled his pockets with gold, but had never learned to swim and sank with all his gold. The family was happy and together again, while Rufus had lived for gold and died from greed.
