About the Author

I am John Andrew Stevens, PhD, music teacher, classical guitarist, and singer. I have over forty years of educational experience with emphasis on establishing solid skills at Russian and Ukrainian music schools and music colleges, teaching conservatory students, and giving private lessons in America. During my pedagogical career, several of my students became famous guitarists, and also, I prepared many young people for entrance in music colleges and conservatories. For many years I researched the possibilities and ways to improve the musical education of children. The results of this research were the defense of my dissertation, “Pedagogical Basis of Musical Upbringing of Youngest School-Age Children,” plus I wrote and published a book, Scientifically Grounded System of Elementary Musical Education of Children, in Kiev, Ukraine, in 1990. Also, I was an artist—soloist and accompanist (guitar), in a central Ukrainian tour performance company.
