About the Book

“Plays must play.” This was my teacher´s indictment of Percy Bysshe Shelley. She insisted that his play could never be staged. Why? Theatre is tougher than poetry. Hell, theatre is tougher than boot camp.

Hillbilly Buddha will play. This is not solely my opinion. Over the last ten years the following Celebrities have offered kudos: Dave Barry, Gary Burghoff, Steve Carlyle, Terence Knapp, Jacki Weaver, & Tom Villard. Alas, none of these folks leaped to finance a production.

Then I sweet-talked my way past Hita at the William Morris Agency. This was a shot at getting the script to Billy Bob Thornton. But nothing happened there either. Michael Crichton refused to read it...twice. He left a voice mail after his second rebuff, drivel about being sued. So. It appears this show will not be shown. But flukes happen. You never know. One thing is assured though if this drama ever does reach the boards. Some of the audience will holler. They´ll be outraged. They will call for my head on a plate.
