About the Book
Her book of poetry, Unleashed, reveals her work and travels as a social justice educator as she mines the global landscape for “What if Means to be Human.” This epoch journey has included musings and reflections, both real and imaginary that are steeped in her work with her undergraduate students at Kwantlen Polytechnic University; while walking the Camino de Santiago trail in Spain; traversing the wilds of Kenya, Ethiopia, and Tanzania; praying to unknown Gods in India; working with Habitat for Humanity in Fiji – while dodging falling coconuts, cyclones, and a tsunami warning; and simply trying to live her life at home on both sides of the Salish Sea. At the end of this journey, there are no words to adequately capture all that has befallen her. In addition to her poetic jottings and ruminations, she will be launching an abstract art exhibition in anticipation that it will give her audiences the smallest of glimpses into examining the human condition through the tension and interplay of words, wet paint, and the collision of the two.
About the Author
Five countries and four years later, a frayed backpack, a stack of tattered journals, the desire to question everything that she once believed to be true, and a new sense of unbridled enlightenment, including an ongoing desire to change the world around her, have landed Joan M. Nesbitt on the literary scene as a new and emerging poetic voice to take note of.
