About the Book

Since the beginning of mankind there have been men, and some women, who were consumed with a driving passion to spend their lives in the woods, in the open spaces or on the water, as far removed as possible from the hassles and shackles of society. These hardy individuals never cared much for wealth, riches nor the material possessions that the mass of people covet so dearly. These people, sometimes referred to as “woodsbums”, do covet freedom, quiet, solitude and a close, somewhat spiritual association with all things wild and the places they inhabit.

About the Author

The author was born with this passion for an unfettered lifestyle in the woods and on the water. Although he made several stabs at business and worked several good jobs that everyone said that he was a fool to give up, his heart, soul and mind led him to a lifestyle that he has never regretted. This lifestyle did come with hardships, some danger at times, physical discomforts and pockets with very little money in them. No amount of money, however, could ever buy the memories that he will carry to his grave. Go with Don Shumaker as he tells his story of a life as a woodsbum.
