About the Book

Renee Henri, a girl in her upper teens living in the small world of a New England town during World War II, finds the course of her life forever altered by a disastrous turn of events at the time of the Normandy invasion in Europe. She and her beloved Harlie’s minds were forced by war to learn of the world far beyond them. Jos Bracher, a British pilot, thought he had understood that world, but the war taught him that he had not. He found himself living in a world where loving cousins killed each other.

Renee lives as a single mother for a number of years after the war, but marries and rides the better post war times of the fifties and sixties. A strange turn of events occurs when her son, a journalist, covers a reunion of thirty-year-survivors of the Battle of the Bulge in France – and Renee receives the shock of her life!

About the Author

Larry Sasscer, born in upper New York State, was raised and educated through his Ph.D. largely in the Washington D.C. area. Though an U.S. Air Force pilot for several years through the mid-fifties, he went on to spend nearly all his career in education. Starting as a high school biology teacher, he spent 25 years in college administration, managing a division of science and mathematics, and retiring as a vice-president for planning and student outcomes assessment. Though the idea for this novel came to Larry in the early seventies, it had to gestate more than twenty-five years before time and events would allow it to emerge.
