About the Book

Sleeplight, Moontight is a science based "read aloud" appropriate for children ages 4 - 8 years old. It introduces basic concepts about the moon, its phases, and the effects it has upon the Earth.

The information is presented through catchy, memorable rhymes. This book provides an excellent literary introduction to information about the moon, and can be successfully used by primary teachers and parents alike.

A little girl is able to overcome her fear of the dark through the lessons (moon news) her father teaches her about the moon. She considers the moon a most interesting night light which she endearingly refers to as her "sleeplight". The girl and her father use bedtime as an opportunity to explore basic science information surrounding the moon. The child not only begins to wonder about the moon, but takes ownership for its presence in her world.

The book contains many interesting pieces of factual information which are geared to the young reader's level of interest and understanding. The last page of the book is called "Real Moon Facts for Real Kids" and lists, as a review, valuable tidbits for little ones about the moon.

About the Author

BIO Kay Perrine has enjoyed a life-long involvement with both children and the arts. She has three of her own wonderful grown children as well as nieces and great nieces. She spent many years as an elementary classroom teacher which has raised her awareness of the need for science based literature for children. It was actually the “fear of the dark” experienced by one of her great nieces which inspired “Sleeplight, Moontight”. She would tell you that she is a better sculptress than a painter, but enjoys all forms of art in addition to gardening and any other outdoor activity. She feels that children and flowers offer the greatest creative inspirations that the world has to offer!
