About the Book

Carlotta, in Hitler’s Berlin, is a young Cabaret singer in love with a Panzer Army General, later killed in Poland. In Paris she marries an unloved Major who helps her escape to Switzerland after D-Day. In Lausanne she has a passionate love affair. There she meets Don Jaime, Duke of Segovia, son of Spanish King Alfonso XIII.

After war ends she obtains a divorce. Don Jaime, also divorced, offers marriage. She becomes the Duchess of Segovia. She is affected by intrigues of the royal family. Carlotta saves Don Jaime when his son, Alfonso, tries to put him in an institution. After Don Jaime dies she turns to her intimate American friend.


About the Author

J. A. Sandusky was born in Chicago. He was involved in music activities and became concertmaster and assistant conductor of an important scholastic orchestra, and later first violin of a string quartet. During WWII, he served in the Pacific, and returned with several bronze battle stars. War over, he was an executive in mail order companies in Chicago and New England. Eventually he became Chairman of the management board of a large textile manufacturing group in Great Britain. Writing has been an important avocation. He now works in New York City, and lives in New Jersey.
