About the Book

In his slightly autobiographical treatise, John Wohlfarth has covered highlights (some in lengthy detail), of historical and other interesting facets of his life from childhood to the present time–a period of more than three-quarters of a century including a world war, a worldwide depression and numerous wars in between. Calvin Coolidge was elected President on the day of the author’s birth. A study of presidents, their achievements and so forth contribute much to the details set forth in the work. The growth of America, from its colonial days and the trials of its early years as a young nation, its long period of isolation from the rest of the world, and its ultimate acceptance of its role as a major power in all global activities, along with political and social issues, provides history on a grand scale.

About the Author

John W. Wohlfarth was born in 1924 in Paulsboro, New Jersey, and educated there and at Temple University in Philadelphia, where he met his wife Lillian, also an undergraduate. Author of A Modern Pilgrim in India, Pandora’s Promise and Elysium, he has received the American Legion Award for most outstanding student in United States History and Government. During the last days of the British Raj in India, Wohlfarth gathered the material, which became his first published work, noted above and published in India. Pandora’s Promise followed in 1998. Elysium deals in great measure with the powerful, but initially subdued, influence and interference religion has played in man’s wars.
