About the Book
Against the background of the 1916 Battle of the Somme, Celeste de Hueslin, the young aristocratic French war widow, and Dennis Carswell, a married British officer, are thrown together. Their loving relationship endures shellfire, enemy occupation, wounding, injury and illness which leave their lives in tatters; two more victims of the First World War. More turbulent years follow during which their circumstances alter dramatically until the poignant conclusion is reached decades later.
