About the Author

Karl Patten is the Author of three previous books of poems, The Impossible Reaches, Touch, and Spaces and Lines. Now at the age of eighty, he feels a kind of liberating joyous irresponsibility, a vesperal freedom, which permits him to have an indifference to the opinions of others not unlike that shown by writers, painters, and composers in their late years. To cite only Beethoven’s last quartet seems supremely egotistical, but that is what age can do, risk a je-m’-en-foutisme of spirit.
