About the Author

Jean H. Stem was a teacher of English at Akron, Ohio’s old South High School for 14 years before moving to Buchtel High School for 11 years. Her achievements are based partly on the fact that she taught both ends of the academic spectrum – advanced students headed for college and students who were termed ‘at risk’ for dropping out of school. She used the same material for both groups but did the teaching in very different ways. She used differentiation before it became the new educational buzzword! The rest of her achievements are based on her hard work and her never ending belief that her efforts will make the world a better place. Once retirement loomed, Jean put her creative efforts into poetry. She still lives in Akron, Ohio. She has three daughters, three grandchildren and two great-grand daughters. Of all her memories, her years in the classroom are among her fondest.
