About the Book
A painting is the result of elements that have been thrown together. Others will look at it and judge it to be either a work of art that is worthy of admiration, or else as something that is just so much wasted space. Those elements that have been used to create something unique are irrelevant in the moment when someone makes a judgment call: worthy or unworthy. How the painting continues to live through the years (growing older, cracking, fading, becoming other than how it is first perceived) depends on the history, the preparation, and the artist´s thoughts and state of mind during the creation process. A painting is never really finished. It becomes alive. It is always evolving; always changing. It is always possible to find something different and unexpected within it. Any glimpse into its history or process can change the outlook of the entire piece forever. And paintings can die. It is simple to judge a painting in just a moment... but no painting is ever simple.
This book of poetry reflects the creation of one painting. The poems encompass the life, loves, and learning of the painter. It is a very personal view of a man´s coming-out process and his relationships with God, his family, and the loves that have influenced his painting. It is a reflection of other artists, other people, other losses, and those moments that had the greatest effect on the painter as a whole. It is to help others understand the painting a little better and to see that there is so much more to a painting than what is perceived at first glance.
