This is a true story about a baby Buffalo whose own mother did not want, and would not nurse. It is very important that a new calf nurse with the mother in the first 48 hours after birth. Colostrums – the first secretion from mammary glands: a yellowish fluid rich in antibodies and minerals. It provides newborns with immunity to infections. With out this fluid a calf could become very sick and die in most cases. Mom did not want this calf, so farmer Dale needs to take on the reasonability of the mom, or find someone to foster this new calf. Farmer Dale called Mr. Valentine a farmer who takes in animals no one wants for one reason or another. Raising a young calf is a lot of work. Two warm bottles of calf replacer a day and making sure the calf is warm at night. In addition, it is very important this calf needs to be touched. Of course, not like the mom she would use her tongue. However, in fostering the humans need to rub and touch the calf. Mr. and Mrs. have a granddaughter who loves to help in caring for animals. Delaine age five likes to help feed the animals. Gather eggs from the chickens; help mix feed for the peacocks. Put out hay for the cows, and falling in love with an unwanted baby Buffalo.
