About the Book

At the end of World War II, a young woman in East Germany tries to escape the Communist system as well as her strict father's disapproval of her. She succeeds to cross the border illegally, but finds her dreams of success do not materialize in West Germany. Struggling to survive, she decides to look for greener pastures still, and she finally migrates to America.

About the Author

Angel Middlebrooks grew up in East Germany. After finishing her millinery apprentice training and graduation from trade school, she fled to West Germany. She married and emigrated to the United States of America in 1953. Ms. Middlebrooks worked several years as clerk and secretary for different departments of the State of Texas in Austin. Now retired, she lives in Corpus Christi, Texas and spends her time writing and taking care of her two pet birds. She has one daughter who resides in Elgin, Texas.
