About the Book

This story is a work of fiction centered around actual events that took place in the 1950s and early 1960s. In 1959 Fidel Castro took control of the island of Cuba and began to rule with a heavy hand. His brutal methods and close relations with the Soviet Union attracted the attention of the U.S. government and the CIA. The CIA began training groups of Cuban exiles in Florida and Guatemala to overthrow Castro. That effort, which we came to know as the Bay of Pigs invasion, was a failure for several reasons, one of which is the moving of the location of the invasion from the city of Trinidad to the Bay of Pigs. My fictional characters are a group who were trained on a different island to help with the overthrow but were not told that the invasion point was moved, this sets the stage for an exciting guerilla battle. There is also a very interesting side story involving family and associates of the soldiers sent to Cuba. Their lives take several dramatic turns that would involve murder, robbery, suspense, and greed—a compelling look at a group of people from different walks of life brought together by strange sometimes violent circumstances.
