About the Book

About the Author

Dorie Roberts is a first-time author. She resides in Wyoming in summer and in Arizona in winter. She has lived and worked on a cattle ranch for eleven years, owned and operated a floral and gift shop for nine years, and constructed and supervised a one hundred–unit mobile home subdivision. She also sold real estate for ten years while overseeing the mobile home park. She has a daughter and three sons. These are true stories. Only the names have been changed to protect the innocent and the guilty. Henry was the manager-lender of an independent finance company located in western Wyoming. The stories that follow describes our repossession trips and escapades over a period of years. I was his accomplice in these episodes. My .38-caliber revolver was always in my purse along with my permit to carry a concealed weapon. The gun’s name was Herman. Henry’s clients were people who needed financial help for short periods of time. Some of their reasons for borrowing were because they had a temporary setback due to illness, loss of employment, etc.; but some were just overspending their income to buy “toys” such as a camp trailer, snow machine, motorcycle, or diamond ring—items that were nonessential and unaffordable. They didn’t ask themselves if these were needs or wants. The majority of his borrowers was good risks and kept their payments current. They are the people that kept Henry in business for twenty-five years until he retired. The fun part of being in the finance business was attending the conventions and the trips to the State Capitol and Washington DC to lobby for changes pertaining to the lending business.
