Arnold Cross A Memoir is about Arnold“s life as a child in the Cumberland mountains of East Tennessee, his twenty years and three days in the Air Force and his life after retiring from the Air Force. His narrative includes many stories about his Dad and about life in the mountains in the 30s and 40s. He also writes about the many countries he has visited in his time in the Air Force and about the people he came to know during that time. In retirement his passion is woodworking, especially making F5 mandolins.


About the Author

Arnold Cross was born in 1932 in the Cumberland Mountains of east Tennessee. He was raised on farms and learned to work on the farms at an early age. At seventeen he went to Indiana to work in a glass factory. In 1952 he joined the Air Force and spent twenty years traveling the world maintaining and flying on airplanes. He also work in Maintenance Control making sure every plane was airworthy and where it should be. He flew support missions into Viet Nam for the length of the war. After Arnold retired he worked for Square D Electric Company for five years. After that woodworking became his passion with building mandolins at the top of the list.
