About the Author

I saw my first light of day on July 28, 1944 in Logansport Indiana, the eleventh of twelve children in the Friskey family. Two more children would come later after my father passed away and my mother married a central Illinois farmer. It would be dur—the years on the farm that I would become a fan of the new rock and roll music. There was plenty of exposure considering Dick Clark’s American Bandstand was on every weekday afternoon and The Dick Clark Show every Saturday night. Local radio stations played the Top 20 and Top 30 surveys on a weekly schedule, as well. My interest in writing probably surfaced in the sixth grade when the teacher assigned us to write a poem about the snowy weather we were witnessing at the time. My poem was chosen to be read to the class. Much later, in high school, my literature teacher challenged us to write a 5,000 word fictional story on any subject. Again my story was chosen to be read to the class. I collaborated with my older sister to write a radio play which was acted out over the intercom system at our high school. My desire to write has been fueled more by rejection rather than by encouragement. It was just two years ago, while sharing my desire to write, with a friend, that he suggested since I was so interested in rock and roll, that I should write a book on the subject. Having amassed hundreds of books, facts, and articles about rock and roll, not to write a book but, for my own interest, that suggestion seemed plausible. So, after nearly two years of searching and writing, this book has become a reality. It is with great expectation, that you, the reader the reader will enjoy reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing it.
