About the Book

His work as a travel operator and experience as a world traveler himself, uniquely qualifies Mr. Martins to provide potential travelers with practical advice. It summarizes mostly his own and his wife’s discoveries while traveling and inspecting facilities. He likes to tell the story of a successful hotel owner who regularly consulted him about different aspects of his business. The reply to the argument:” if I knew more than you, I would own your bank account and you mine. So what can I possibly tell you?” was: “you tell me what to avoid and that is worth a lot”. Mr Martins aims to perform the same service for the reader of ‘TIPS FOR TRAVELERS.

About the Author

Educated in Germany and England, Mr. Martins has lived in Brazil for the past 67 years, sixty of which he spent in service industries, including but not exclusively, travel and lodging. He has held senior executive positions in multi-national corporations, acted as executive board member of independent enterprises and part owner of his own business. While in the travel industry, Mr Martins at first worked in operations, but eventually returned to international sales and marketing, his original field of specialization. Fluent in several languages, his work has taken him all over the world, most times with his wife, an equally fluent linguist, who spent many years as his working partner. He has been a member of most important international and local Brazilian travel trade organizations and, during many years, was a regular contributor to trade magazines in the U.S. and France. During the final years of his career, Mr. Martins acted as in-house strategy consultant at a major multi-national corporation. After retiring at age 81, he opened his own consulting service and still issues a monthly overview of events in the Brazilian travel industry, under contract to a foreign client. Married for 54 years, the couple has a son and daughter, both married, plus three grandchildren.
