About the Book

An eye-opening, poignant read awaits readers as author Surriya Kausar Waheed pens Beyond my Imagination: Living Tragedy with Tolerance and Patience, an autobiographical account of her experiences as a victim of preventable medical errors.

Divided into nineteen in-depth and revealing chapters, this memoir documents the author’s unfortunate encounters that changed her life forever—for the worst. Due to medical negligence, mishandling, blunder, and lack of proper care, the author walked into the hospital very actively for a surgery but came out on a wheelchair without her limbs.

On a lighter note, Waheed mentions her humble beginnings in Pakistan and her exploits as the first immigrant from her family to come to the USA. She also includes her marriage and family life, and how happy she is for having been blessed with wonderful children.

She dedicates this memoir to other disabled people like herself, as well as health care institutions, to make them aware of their flaws and prevent further damages to their patients.

About the Author

Beyond My Imagination: I am a living Tragedy with Tolerance and Patience, I am a victim of a preventable medical errors.. I am Surriya Kausar Waheed, born and raised in Sahiwal, Pakistan, with an MA in geography. I got married to Abdul Waheed, PhD. I am the first immigrant from my family to come to the USA on March 1, 1971. My two sons were born here. They are successful in their life. My husband and I worked very hard to make their dreams come true. I went to travel school and established my own travel agency in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1982. I worked until October 20, 2005. We had a normal and happy life. I had a scheduled urethral tube repair surgery / UPJ obstruction on October 21, 2005. It was a colorful morning, but it turned into a very dark, gloomy, and sad morning. I walked very actively in the hospital and came back on a wheelchair without my limbs. Patients should be treated according to their medical history. I found myself disabled and dependent. Life was there and without quality; it will be four years. My privacy is invaded, not to mention my pain and suffering. Some days and nights are worst than others. My stumps bring severe pain., rashes, itching and pressure on knees. I still , feel some phantom pain. I still believe some doctors are caring and responsible and use their knowledge very wisely and carefully. For the last four years, the journey after my amputation got me so involved with my physical therapy from wheelchair to walker and from walker to quad cane. then , I comfort myself by seeing that there must be some reason behind , but it’s still beyond my imaginations , then Jury trial was over without verdict heard . I have three cute grandchildren, two boys and one girl, and they say, “When we grow up, we will take care of you, Daddi.” These words give me a lot of energy. I don’t know what else to tell the readers but to improve their quality of life and be the judge of my true story based on my own experience, and it will encourage me to write more on different social issues. May God bless all the readers? Amen! I waited the dawn to appear , the Moon and Stars to disappear, When, I woke up without limbs, the beauty of my life disappeared. Surriya K .Waheed.
