About the Author
Tai Chan received his B.Ch.E. from The Cooper Union and Ph.D. in environmental health sciences from New York University. His professional career with General Motors began in 1977 as a research scientist at the GM Research Laboratories. During his 31-year tenure at GM, he served as program manager of occupational health research, global technology engineering, and executive secretary on the GM-China Technology Advisory Board. He was president of the American Association for Aerosol Research in 1996 and president of the Detroit Chinese Engineers Association in 2001. Since 2009, he has been visiting scholar at Tsinghua University in Beijing, and has lectured in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Hung J. Lee obtained his B.S. degree in chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley, and did graduate research work in molecular biology at the California Institute of Technology. In 1974, he joined the United Nations as a translator in its Chinese Service in New York, where he worked for more than 33 years. His areas of specialization are international law, and science and technology. Prior to his retirement in 2007, he served as Programme Officer in charge of work organization, and as Training Officer in charge of staff training and quality control. He has taught at the Graduate School of Interpretation and Translation of Shanghai International Studies University.
