After thirty years of civil service, which included four years at the apprentice school at the Boston Naval Shipyard, I retired from Kelly Air Force Base (Civil Engineers Electric Dept.) San Antonio, Texas. Retirement was difficult, because of economic conditions, so my wife and I decided to go back to work. We both were hired at the Southwest San Antonio School District. While on assignment to transport special needs hearing impaired children, I decided to enroll in a short course in American Sign Language. For a last lesson, our instructor asked us to write a short story and do our best to interpret it to the class. With difficulty and a lot of body language and facial expressions, I was able to get through to most of the class. The rest had frozen quizzical looks on their faces but after reading the story, several of the ladies remarked, “Oh! That’s sooo cute!” My sincere wish is that by reading this simple bedtime story to her child it will increase the natural loving bond between the mother and her child.
