About the Author

Anne-Laure Monfret is a management and human resource specialist who lived in China for eight years. Born near Paris, she attended business school and later was a management consultant with a firm specializing in Human Resources. Along the years, she developed a deep interest in cross-cultural issues. She has written numerous articles for magazines in China and elsewhere, and lectured on the key cultural notion of face at the French Chamber of Commerce in China and at international business schools. She has two young sons and is currently living in Mamaroneck, New York. She divides her time between journalism and the writing of a new book related to China. She plans to return to Shanghai in the fall of 2011 for lectures.
